Neonatal Headscan Studygroup Dresden

Postnatal head growth and head deformities have been shown to predict neurodevelopmental outcome of preterm infants. Currently sequential manual measurements of head circumference are used to monitor head growth. Laser aided head scan could be a promising new method, which offers the opportunity to obtain a three-dimensional view on infants’ head.

We use a 3D laser system to investigate regular head growth and head deformities in preterm infants. Outcome studies relating cranial volume and head deformities to neurodevelopment of preterm infants are the object of our on-going investigations. We are also interested in factors influencing head growth and shape in preterm infants.
